Why is there such a high demand for gambling in the United States?

   Unfortunately many people are in debt and are looking for a quick, easy way to get money. Some of them turn to casinos, thinking this is the way to do things. They do not realize the overall odds are in favour of the house, and they do not realize they spend so much time and money on gambling.

   Sad, but true.

   thats an interesting question. unfortunately the allure for easy money captivates people, but i would be a liar if i said that ive never been to foxwoods or mohegan sun. those two places have more than just gambling though. i know it sounds strange, but if your in control and you only lose 1 or 2 hundred dollars gambling, assuming its disposable income, you probably would have spen that much if you went out in a city and you like to drink. most casinos will give you free drinks and maybe a buffet comp, but i slightly strayed off part of the question. probably they will keep building them until they dont become profitable or a specific area can not sustain any more.

   well..five will get you ten that the reason there is such a high demand for gambling is because there has always been a high demand for gambling.. it didn’t just start in the last few years.. it has been going on since people were able to communicate on a regular basis.. gambling was big in the roaring twenties, and the thirties, forties and fifties.. I think to most people it is a form of escape, entertainment and the lure of winning.. I have won and lost.. I do not consider myself a gambler.. No card games and no roulete.. just the slots.. I could spend the money on fishing, going to the movies, shopping, drinking, and etc.. but as much as I may enjoy those things, I prefer to test the slots.. up to a limit.. I only gamble with what I can afford to lose.. mainly it is the excitement of winning..kind of like catching a record fish.. there is a fine line between fishing and standing on the bank looking like an idiot.. and there is a fine line between gambling on a quarter slot and being idiot enough to spend your lunch money on the roll of the dice..

   Gambling is a popular pastime, but is is severely restricted here in the US. Many of the Indian casinos are in very obscure places. Some casinos are stuck on weird boats to comply with laws that are older than most people living in this country. While the really major casinos are only in Vegas and Atlantic City.

   There are huge chunks of the country where the nearest real casino is hours away.

   So I think it may seem like demand is high, but I think the reality is more than in America draconian anti-gambling laws are limiting supply. Therefore the casinos that do exist get very busy trying to meet demand.

   If we’re gonna have legalized gambling then we need more casinos so that they can stay competitive with each other. If there were only one casino around for hundreds of miles, then you aren’t going to get very good comps or promotions. You’ll be looking at very low payback on slots and the table games rules will pull the house edge to far.

   If you are talking about online gambling then the reason people want it is because they want to be able to play a skill game of poker or a way to bet on sports without worrying about dealing with a bookie.

   JWH: Are you saying that because you play the slots then you are just having fun, and the people who play table games are more likely to lose? You will lose a lot more playing 25cent slots then someone playing $10 per hand at blackjack.
